Elevating interiors with lasting quality and modern vision

Launched in 2023 by The Queer Muslim Project with support from the Netflix Fund for Creative Equity, the Lab celebrates and nurtures queer talent behind the camera, equipping them with the tools, resources, and networks to tell stories that drive meaningful change.

Since its inception, the Lab has supported 22 queer writer-directors from South Asia and its diaspora, with projects advancing through development and into international labs and markets.

Alumni work has screened at leading festivals including BFI Flare, Frameline, and Iris Prize, with past fellows also selected for programmes such as TorinoFilmLab (Green Narratives), Genre Film Lab, Creative Asia (Busan International Film Festival), and WAVES Film Bazaar Co-Production Market.

In 2026, the Lab expands into Southeast Asia, further amplifying diverse voices and strengthening regional exchange.

what the lab offers

The QueerFrames Screenwriting Lab connects emerging writer-directors with leading industry mentors, offering guidance on craft, storytelling, and navigating careers in film. It provides rigorous script development for fiction feature films, alongside input from leading filmmakers and access to film markets and industry networks. The programme fosters a cohort-based creative community grounded in peer exchange and shared learning.

The Lab invests in fellows, not just their projects, supporting their creative and professional growth beyond the programme itself. This includes ongoing access to initiatives such as tailored consultations with industry experts, short film and proof-of-concept funding, pitch training, market exposure, and further development opportunities.
